Executive Summary: Techno-economic Analysis of a porcine collagen extraction process

Summary of Project and Key Findings:
This project developed a preliminary techno-economic assessment (TEA) for collagen extraction from porcine skin and lung. The process framework used in this TEA was designed by BSI; however, no experimental work has yet been conducted on pig skin or lung. Consequently, this TEA serves as an initial assessment that will be refined as further data becomes available. In this preliminary analysis, theoretical yields were calculated, production and capital costs estimated, and a market evaluation performed.

Our findings suggest that porcine collagen is a promising candidate for further development, particularly in applications where functionality and bioactivity are critical. Given the relatively high production costs, commercial viability will depend on the ability of these products to demonstrate superior functionality to justify the additional expense.
